History: Here. I also borrow sparingly from the 616 (original comics) verse and from mythology for times during Thor's childhood/pre banishment in Thor.
Personality:
Raised as the first born son of Odin All-Father, ruler of the realm of Asgard, Thor had never known hardship (other than through training, though he enjoyed this immensely). He was eager and brave and bright enough to learn the history of his people and the rest of the realms though he never excelled scholastically in the same way his adopted brother Loki had.
As first born, Thor was lavished with all sorts of praise and pampered to become the crown prince and the heir to Odin's throne, though his father often told both of his sons that each had an equal chance to ascend. As Thor took after Odin in his lust for battle, his strength, and his strategic ability, it became obvious that Thor was indeed being groomed to take over from them All-Father when Odin was no longer able to rule. Because of this, Thor became arrogant, selfish, and blind to any reality he did not wish to believe in.
Despite spending over a thousand years alongside his brother, Thor never once suspected Loki of harbouring a jealous hatred towards him and right up until Loki's betrayal to reveal him to be an unfit future king, he allowed himself to be goaded and manipulated.
His banishment to Earth and the stripping of his strength and other godly powers did serve to teach him humility, however, and in that way, Loki actually helped him become the sort of man he needed to be to rule after all.
Though disciplined and strong-willing, Thor feels emotions very deeply. He is quick to anger, but also quick to love. His affections and attachment to Jane Foster is an example of this, and his desire to reconcile with Loki does not show his foolishness (no matter how Loki mocks him), just the capacity of his love. Despite his tactical abilities, Thor thinks too much with his heart and that is often the source of his weakness. Sorrow and hope can blind him.
Thor is incredibly old fashioned by human standards (though he does see women as capable warriors and not simply as current or future wives) and not well versed in the ways of Earth or, indeed, of the cultures of any of the other realms. Blame this on his lack of care while studying. He'd been far more interested in battle and strategy to worry about the rest. He is easily confused and though recent events have proven him to be resilient in the face of manipulation by others (given that he has been burned so often of late), in many ways Thor is still childish, can over-react, and still sees himself better than most.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Thor is a warrior. He is proficient with many bladed and blunted weapons (the hammer being his favorite). Leading fellow warriors into battle, Thor is proven strategist. He can also cook a mean omelet, hold his liquor, and cram whole boxes of poptarts into his stomach in one go.
Thor's magical abilities are linked ultimately to Mjolnir, the mythical hammer bestowed upon him by Odin. Thor is able to summon Mjolnir to him, even at a great distance, and often leaves the item laying where ever he last had use of it. The hammer has the power to bypass normal barriers as well, allowing it to teleport (which will likely need to be addressed by the mods if he's even allowed to have it). Only those worthy enough to wield the power of Thor may lift it. It is therefore canonically possible only for Odin, Thor, and in Earth 616 verse, Steve Rogers, with some other exceptions, to lift the hammer. Mjolnir grants Thor the ability of weather control (namely thunderstorms, tornadoes, electrical, hurricanes, blizzards, and in the comics, solar storms, volcanoes and sun flares as well heed the call of the Thunderer) and flight. Thor is also able to summon and dismiss his battle armor at will, causing it to materialize upon his person when needed.
Thor is nigh invulnerable, a character created specifically to combat the Incredible Hulk, and heals quickly from any damage that might actually befall him. While Asgardians do age, and can die of old age (as Odin seems to be progressing towards), they live impossibly long lives. Though Thor is not a sorcerer and did not study magic as his brother, Loki, did, he is still likely intuned to spirits and supernatural entities a little more deeply than the normal human being. He is also able to recognize certain magics or spells, though generally just before it's too late. His brother's illusion ability, for instance, still tends to fool him.
Thor's weaknesses are the people he cares about primarily. He is often easily duped by them (in the case of Loki) or will heroically (and stupidly), lay down his advantage when others are thrust into danger (such as Jane Foster). Ultimately, it is Thor's gullibility and naivety that pose his greatest downfalls.
Thor has faced all of his greatest fears at one point or another. Initially fearing being stripped of his powers and his birthright, Thor managed to overcome his seemingly doomed mortality and once again became worthy of his powers. He has also been forced to survive losing the people he cares for, the greatest example of this is his brother whom he believes is now beyond saving. There is a part of him that is terrified of Odin's passing as well, for that will thrust him onto the throne and he inwardly does not believe he is ready for that . Now, Thor fears once again no longer being worthy of the throne of Asgard, losing the people he loves as he lost his brother to jealousy and madness, and being the downfall of his kingdom.

As yet, I am still unsure of dwelling in this realm. There is little cohesion between cities in a way that reminds me of your Earth. I am left to ponder my location and must wait for the All-Father to summon me again to Asgard or allow me to return to Earth. I fear that this is a trick by my brother and that in my absence, chaos is being unleashed upon the realm I swore to protect.
My hope is to find you safe and well. I will return to you soon.

"Loki!" There was a distinct laughter that trickled somewhere down the golden halls of the palace and Thor, pausing at the junction between two in bare feet, turned blindly to follow the sound. Long strides covered ground easily, glad no one else had been disturbed from their slumber as he had. Company would not bring him relief but merely get in his way. Breaking into an all out run, Thor took the next left and then a right again before the laughter reached his ears at a distance behind him. He knew the lay out of the palace. There was no way the other prince could have gotten behind him! Blue eyes narrowed and he brushed long strands of blond from his face as they obscured his vision from his abrupt about face. "Blast your trickery, brother! You will return my possessions or I will see to it that you regret eternally--"
An inky black ice enveloped Thor, causing the world darkened further until it became impossible to breathe. He struggled and was forced to his knees, one hand clawing at the polished wooden floor. The other, at his throat.
"Lo--"
Waking was like being submerged into the bowels of Midgard and Thor shook himself to consciousness violently. His heart pounded like rain in his mighty chest, a sheen of sweat filmed over his skin. There was no maiden in his bed that evening, though he felt the presence of another gone unseen for much too long with dark eyes and hair pricking at the back of his neck. Thor stood and moved to the window, eyes lifting towards the brilliant night sky dazzled by the tips of Asgard's towers. The stars were numerous.
Somewhere in the prisons below his feet was the brother he still dreamed of. Lost. Somehow tormenting him with his hatred still. Thor wondered how many centuries it would take to forgive himself for what happened to Loki. It took a long time to calm himself enough to seek out the constellations where Midgard was nestled and, heavy hearted, to return once more to bed.
